Welcome to the Hansen family blog. A photographic journal of our adventures. Ever since we got a D-SLR, my husband and I have been honing our photography skills. And now, we can't wait to post pictures for everyone. Check back often, because we'll keep sharing.

Thought this tree was perfect for nestling a family portrait. For this shot, I triggered the camera with my smartphone using this wireless adapter.* It also lets me wirelessly upload images to the web. It's so much easier to share this way! I posted this shot as soon as I saw it.

We couldn't believe that this fawn was sitting so comfortably, considering how loud the kids can be. Yet there she was to give me this amazingly detailed shot. I can crop in really tight on the glint in her eye, and it's still really sharp. Clarity like this makes you appreciate having a 24 MP sensor.

Rollover to see the gorgeous detail!

Once the kids found this maze, they couldn't stop running it! You can clearly see the benefits of HD video, but take note of the D3200's full-time auto focus. Watch how it stays sharp as the kids run towards me.

Press play, notice the adjusting focus.

What an amazing day-trip. Shot some gorgeous photos and videos, the weather was pristine and the kids had a blast. Then to top it all, we spotted Ashton Kutcher in the middle of the woods!

I'm learning that there's more to a great shot than a great camera. Techniques like the Rule of Thirds make compositions more interesting. My D3200 has a grid option on the LCD for just that purpose, which really helped me compose this keeper.

Turn on the grid. See how I placed the kids near the intersections?

After lunch, Chris took us to watch a nearby mountain bike race he read about. We saw Ashton Kutcher among the spectators, taking photos! Too shy to talk to him, but I still got this great shot and posted it* to Facebook. I got 20 Likes in 20 minutes!

I found this Selective Color feature in the Retouch Menu. I had the kids feed the koi with bread so I could snap some great photos. Then I adjusted them to highlight only the orange. It's interesting how colors are more vivid in the absence of others, you know?

Try it yourself. Rollover to isolate the colors.

I let the kids take this one. I know, impressive. But I set it up for them...with Guide Mode's help! It showed me how to adjust the camera's aperture and put the full scene in focus (unlike the soft background portrait with Jacob). What a beautiful couple, right? :)

What a full day! Everyone got a turn using the D3200, even Jacob and Sophie. I posted some great shots and Chris got a few he plans to print and frame. Stay tuned for more Hansen highlights!
